Only by a whisker.. Dawson sold him self like a cheap whore letting them run in on goal.

"Why was Zouma on the bench when he was brought in to strengthen a defence that had been leaking goals? "

You do realise we kept a clean sheet against Southampton?

"Was the plan to bring him on once we had gifted a goal,"

But we didn't gift them a goal did we?

If we had lost the game you might have a point but as we kept a clean sheet it's a bit strange to be focusing on the defensive line up on Saturday.

Zouma will play on Thursday I have no doubt about it and will be above Dawson in the pecking order but the clean sheet means Moyes made the right call on Saturday.

Zouma probably wasn't put in due to it being the squad coming back together from international games.......why can't people see even good players should be given the time to meet their new team mates?

Can't remember the last time I was critical of Moyes but this was a very bad day at the office.

Why was Zouma on the bench when he was brought in to strengthen a defence that had been leaking goals? Was the plan to bring him on once we had gifted a goal, well it would have been too late! Apparently Zouma's wages had caused some disharmony in the dressing room, he had to start plus surely much better the 'new pairing' had a run out last Saturday rather than against ManU?

As for Antonio, no need to quote anyone other than Moyes himself when questioned why we had not brought a striker in. 'We have to manage Micky, be very careful with him', well 95 minutes, knackered and still on the pitch is not good management of our key player.

So what next, surely not Yarmalenko who is an absolute waste of space. It seems Sullivan had other things on his mind during the transfer window, pity because if our players were tired after international duties then the squad certainly isn't strong and large enough to contend with two games a week.

Why Antonio chose to play for Jamaica is beyond me. All that travel with dodgy hamstrings to play for the bottom team with no hope of qualifying is unbelievable

Moves is extremely poor with his substitutions.
Was Bowen injured ?
If no then WTF did he not take off Antonio.
It wasn't Antonio's day. So take him off and save him an injury or what happened.
2 subs in game where we had many options.

Yes. He looked completely knackered, his hamstrings could potentially have gone again and he was also becoming frustrated and niggled with their defenders (which resulted in two bookings.)

us looking tired is going to be a theme this season if we progress in Europe. We looked tired back end of last season and what kept our CL push going was getting Lingard in at the right time. I reckon we'll be looking to do business in January 2022 too

I thought the bloke had Antonio round the neck and should have been booked for that before they started chucking each other around

Pdc - subs are made on the current game situation, not what happened last month.

Take the player of the month off after an hour ??

Re: ⚽ Southampton v West Ham - Official Match Thread
I was at the match and it was obvious that Antonio was knackered. I’d have replaced him, at least, on about the 60 minute mark. Keeping him on for the whole match was a disaster waiting to happen.

Their subs had us back-pedalling in the last ten to fifteen minutes and I thought their right back looked quite useful for most of the match. It was disappointing but at least we escaped with a point.

The players didn't look like they wanted it. I expect a lot more motivation against Zagreb and the Mancs.

As for Antonio. I guess we were going to lose him sooner or later anyway. A good chance to see Moyes' plan B.

Whatever that may be.

Thought Rice was our best player but the new lad did well when he came on. Dawson scares me.

Oggy and Yarmo went straight down the tunnel at the final whistle without applauding the away fans which I thought was poor.

Three blokes by me were much more concerned with having a go at the Southampton fans than watching the match. Funny way to spend a Saturday if you ask me.

“The Dell, or whatever it's called now”

It’s called St Mary’s and has been since the day they moved in there in 2001.

But you knew that anyway.

Re: ⚽ Southampton v West Ham - Official Match Thread
Antonio was throwing himself about with zero effect asking to be sent off.
Had we had at least one other striker like any other team does Antonio would have come off earlier and not been sent off, might have even snatched the win.
But apparently there are no strikers on the planet who we could have signed last 2 years.
